Sunset Mountaintop Picos de Europa Photography Print

I'm Jannika, photographer who loves the outdoors and nature. 

I want to reach as many people as possible and share the beauty that surrounds us. I would like to remind people how amazing and important nature is for us. 

I struggle having the time and lining up my busy schedule. I am constantly outdoors, but finding the time from other interests such as sailing, climbing, surfing and hiking, it's hard to time when the camera is out and when it is not.  

But I am ambitious and usually carry my camera with me even when I know my time will be spread over may things at the same time. My attitude towards being ready to always snap a shot when possible is the key for achieving goals 

I was really excited to hike the Picos de Europa in Asturias, Northen Spain in July 2025. I had  planned the hiking days out with my partner, and was hoping that the schedule would hold and allow me to take some sunset and sunrise photos on the mountains. I was excited to see wildlife and climb up  above the clouds. 
The day came and we were trekking up. The air cooled down as we ascended. The sound of rocks crackling on the side of the cliffs, the wind blowing through the valleys and birds occasionally making noises filled the air. Everything was beautiful.
We were little delayed in the first day, due to underestimating the length of the trail,  and barely got food at the basecamp after we arrived, due their dinner serving policy. Despite this spirits were high, we had just gotten engaged that day and enjoyed some well deserved sunset views. I managed to get some shots but was having higher hopes for better views on the next day. 

The next day we decided to try a trail that didn't have many reviews and couldn't be found on the main trail map.. It was a mistake for us and costed us some time on our way to the next basecamp. After a delay and being lost - finding the trail again.. We git properly lost. We could not see the trail we were following, rather saw a couple of trails and were guessing which one to take. I was counting in my head how much we had water with us - not an awful lot. We couldn't tell exactly where we were, or how far the next base camp would be 

We kept pushing on and walking ahead having an idea of the direction where we were aiming. Finally after turning corner after another one we saw a small hut on the distance and realised that to be our basecamp. We hurried over and made it to the camp for dinner and the sunset. As we sat on the top of the camp I saw my chance for photos as the beautifully lit clouds passed by the mountains. It was a well earned sight and we cherished it truly. 

I was very happy with the result of the photo and even more so of the confidence I had gained not only for our survival skills but also for my intuition having camera with me on my adventure.
